Sarah & Alex Engagement shoot
Last Sunday I met with the lovely Sarah and Alex on Ashdown Forest to do their engagement shoot.
Sarah & Alex have booked me to photograph their wedding next year which Iām very excited about as their plans sound amazing (there will be no spoiler alerts from me though).
They picked Ashdown Forest for the shoot location as theyād had date there early on in their relationship. The weather on the day was a little overcast, making the light a bit flat, so I enlisted the help of (bribed!) my eldest daughter to be my lighting assistant so I could use a bit of off camera flash.
Canāt wait for the wedding next year!
Cats!
I love cats, if you know me or have read my about me page youāll know this but just to reiterate - I LOVE cats. At the end of 2018 I purchased a charity cat calendar from a friend and thought this is something I need to get involved with and I said to her if you are doing another one for 2020 I would love to offer my services.
So earlier this year I (along with a couple of other phortographers) have been going round to peopleās houses who have adopted a cat (or 2 or 3) from Streetkatz and photographed the cats for the 2020 calendar. Not all the cats were keen on being photographed, some hid and refused to have their picture taken, but most of them seem to love it. Iāve been dying to share the photos as who doesnāt like looking at cat pictures?!
Thank you to the superstar cats and their owners; Josh, Selma, Winnie, Bobby, Hattie, Mickey, Bert and Suki.
The calendars would make great Christmas presents, so if you know a cat lover or are one yourself and want to help a local cat charity, you can purchase the calendars here.
Safari Tipi Party!
Recently I was booked to photograph Sarahās 60th Birthday. But this was no ordinary party - this was a safari themed party in a tip!
Sarah was lucky with the weather, so the welcome drinks were served in the garden accompanied by the lovely vocals of Rose Lancaster and a breathtaking sunset, before moving inside into the jungle decorated tipi supplied by Wildflower Events.
The tipi looked amazing and with all the guests embracing the theme wonderfully there were twinkling fairy lights and leopard print everywhere you looked but not in a, dare I say it, tacky Bet Lynch sort of way!
This was definitely party goals!

Before the Bluebells
Before the Bluebells is a series of woodland photographs made in a four month period from
the beginning of November 2018 until the end of February 2019.
I photographed a group of woodlands that are local to where I live in East Sussex. Although I had visited some of these woodlands before, I really didnāt know them that well. I wanted to spend as much time as possible in these places, making photographs and forming a bond with the landscape.
I chose this time of year because I find it incredibly beautiful, even if slightly melancholic. The struggle of nature as winter takes hold is always going to have parallels with life itself.
Whilst out on a 10 mile woodland walk in March 2018, I decided to visit a nearby beach afterwards. This visit changed my life forever, because I had the very unfortunate experience of finding a father and his two young children at the foot of Beachy Head cliffs. Beachy Head in East Sussex is a beautiful, picturesque place, but also a notorious suicide spot. As you can imagine this was a tremendously traumatic experience and one that will stay with me forever.
After these events I knew I needed a photography project, one that would force me to get back in to the landscape and perhaps serve as some sort of self healing at the same time.
For hundreds of years itās been widely thought that walking within nature has positive health effects, both physically and mentally. It is said that walking in the woodlands increases our level of white blood cells and lowers our pulse rate, blood pressure and levels of cortisol (the stress hormone). Studies say that even breathing in the air around trees and plants has anti cancer properties.
The woods are a great place to go and lose yourself for a couple of hours and can really do wonders for your state of mind. Take a flask, the dog and head off in to the wilderness. Remember to take time on your walk to stop and take it all in, to breathe in the woodlands around you.
Nature is amazing, but it can seem chaotic.
Iām trying to find some order in the disorder, spending time just looking and then carefully framing each photograph. Itās my way of making sense of it all.

A couple of months ago Andy and I had the amazing opportunity to photograph Beth & Roryās spectacular tipi garden wedding after being recommended to the bride by our wonderful sister in law Emma!
The weather was changeable to say the least - bright sunshine one minute, chucking it down with rain the next. However did this hamper the wedding spirit? Of course not! Beth had put an amazing amount of time and thought into this weekend - Iāve never been to a wedding that had its own merch! There was even a tattoo artists doing fake and real tattoos! The food was amazing, the band incredible and everyone had a fantastic time (including us). I could go on and on but Iāll let the pictures do the talking instead ;0)
